Benedict Cumberbatch (on Martin):
He’s extraordinary. During auditions, the minute he stepped into the room I said to the producers, I don’t know if you want my opinion, but I want to work with him, because he makes my game better. I honestly felt myself get better as an actor playing scenes opposite him — he has brilliant level of humanity. We all know how funny he can be from his work of “The Office,” but he can also play so much pathos — it’s an unsung talent of his that’s often clouded by his “Office” fame.
Martin Freeman (on Benedict):
He’s sweet and generous in an almost childlike way. He’s very easy to screw over. I could take advantage of him playing cards. Actually, I must take advantage of him playing cards. But as an actor, he’s one of the very few people I’ve worked with whose taste I don’t question. Even subconsciously I’m not going, ‘Well, I wouldn’t have done it like that.’ He commits.

I love that look when Sherlock just realizes.
#It’s the nerves of steel bit that always gets me. #Because he says it #and there’s John looking completely innocent #in his jumper next to a police car #all tidy and non-assuming #And Sherlock can just look and know #’I just described John Watson. My new friend.’ #and there was no turning back at that point for either of them.
#it’s when Sherlock just thinks #My god. I’ve only known this man for a day and a half and he has just killed a man for me #And he’s so surprised because no one has cared about him that much or done such a thing like this #and it confuses him #he doesn’t understand
i like this moment because it almost makes me think Sherlock feels slightly offended. He realizes John was the one who killed the cabbie, and that he did it for him, but what he seems so affronted by is the fact that this was in no way something that he was able to forsee John as ever being willing to do. He was able to tell John’s sibling was an alcoholic without knowing him for a full minute and yet after a day of this ‘boring new flatmate’, he wasn’t able to figure out right off the bat that John was the shooter until seeing him at the crime scene. Would he have figured it out that it was John if he hadn’t seen him there? What if John had just gone home afterwords, would Sherlock have even bothered to suspect him at all, his boring flatmate that didn’t know him well enough to possibly kill a man for him! But he did, and Sherlock was surprised and even confused. And I dont think much upsets Sherlock Holmes like someone catching him by surprise or confusing him.
